For a couple of months every year, summer vacation provides children an opportunity to play, explore, and let their imaginations run wild. However, it can also be a dangerous time, leading to serious injuries if precautions aren’t taken.
As parents, we encourage you to think about safety first this summer with your children. To help, here are a few safety tips to remember before summer gets into full swing:
- Bike safety. The freedom a bicycle provides shouldn’t be taken for granted. It allows children to travel far away from the safety of your home. Make sure your child wears a helmet every time they get on their bike and teach them basic bike safety rules when sharing the road with motorists. A simple conversation could save their lives.
- Street safety. Like a bike ride, a pickup basketball game on your street can turn tragic quickly if your child isn’t constantly aware. Set rules to the extent you are comfortable about playing in or near the street during the summer and stick to them.
- Sun and heat safety. Summers here can be hot and humid. Make sure your children remember to stay hydrated throughout the day and take breaks when they get fatigued. In addition, make sure they are wearing sunscreen anytime they are outside. Remember, severe burns can happen even on an overcast day.
Summers should be remembered for the fun your children had, not the injuries they sustained. Help us at Sam Aguiar Injury Lawyers make that a reality. Take precautions now so you can have the best summer
