Holiday Driving Safety Tips
December 20th, 2017 | Car Accidents
At Sam Aguiar Injury Lawyers, we can’t stress the importance of year-round safe driving enough. Our Louisville auto accident lawyers help many victims every year whose lives have been forever changed because of momentary lapses in judgment, focus, or concentration.
However, we also know that the holidays can be a particularly dangerous time for everyone on the road. In addition to the threat of cold weather and slick roads, drivers also face significant risks due to increased traffic volumes, alcohol impairment, speeding drivers, and distractions.
You can reduce your risks on Kentucky’s roads by following these tips this holiday season:
- Watch out for ice. Anything that decreases your tires’ traction on the road can increase your risk of crashing. Black ice is particularly dangerous because it’s the same color as the asphalt, making it hard to see. Reduce your speed and be wary, especially when driving over bridges, as ice can form and still lurk even when temperatures rise above freezing.
- Get a safe ride home if you’ve been drinking. Alcohol is common at holiday parties and family get-togethers, making safe rides home mandatory for everyone who drinks. Before you leave, appoint a designated driver or utilize a cab or ride sharing service to get to and from your destination.
- Be cautious in parking lots. Never underestimate the potential for an accident in a parking lot—especially during the holidays. Other drivers may be unpredictable during the holiday shopping season, so be careful and attentive, and always avoid distractions.
An auto accident in the days leading up to or after Christmas and New Year’s isn’t on anyone’s list this holiday season, but it’s an unfortunate reality for many people throughout Kentucky every year. If you or someone you love was hurt in a crash, we want to help. Call today for a free consultation.
